After forming in 1989 and signing a contract with and in 1993, the band released their first studio album, (1994). Although initially not a commercial success, the album would eventually be certified gold by the for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies.
Spurred by their version of the 's ', the band's first EP, (1995), became a commercial success, selling over a million copies in the US alone. In 1996, the band released their second studio album, which reached number three on the and has sold over 1.9 million copies in the US.
The album went on to sell over seven million copies worldwide, and was supported by the release of 1997's EP. Their third studio album, (1998), was a commercial and critical success, reaching number one on the Billboard 200, as well topping the charts in as.
Mechanical Animals was later followed by their first live album, (1999), which included the promotional single '. In 2000, the band released, which also had massive worldwide success. Their fifth studio album, (2003), was a modest commercial success in their native US, debuting at number one with sales of 118,000 copies. As of November 2008, the album has sold 526,000 copies in the US.
In contrast, the album was, by far, Manson's most successful internationally, peaking within the top five in most of the major European markets. Their sixth album, was released in 2007 and debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200. (2009), reached number four on both the US and Canadian album charts, but was their last album released by Interscope. After signing a deal with, the band released in 2012.
Their ninth studio album, was released on January 20, 2015, debuting at number eight in the US with their highest first-week sales since Eat Me, Drink Me in 2007. Was released on October 6, 2017. 'Remix & Repent' originally peaked at number 163 on the UK Singles Chart as an import. When it was officially released as a single, it was deemed ineligible to enter the UK Singles Chart by the, as it exceeded the maximum track length for a release to be considered a single; it did, however, peak at number one on the UK Budget Albums Chart.
'The Dope Show' did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, but peaked at number 22 on the chart, which acts as a 25-song extension to the Hot 100. 'Personal Jesus' did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, but peaked at number 24 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, which acts as a 25-song extension to the Hot 100. 'No Reflection' did not enter Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart.
It did, however, peak at number 50 on. 'No Reflection' did not enter the, but peaked at number 12 on the. 'Third Day of a Seven Day Binge' did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, but peaked at number 3 on the chart. 'Deep Six' did not enter Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart. It did peak at number 27 on Hot Rock Songs. 'Deep Six' did not enter the German Singles Chart, but peaked at number 1 on the Deutsche Alternative Singles Chart. 'We Know Where You Fucking Live' did not enter Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart.
It did peak at number 41 on Hot Rock Songs. 'We Know Where You Fucking Live' did not enter the German Singles Chart, but peaked at number 4 on the Deutsche Alternative Singles Chart. 'Kill4Me' did not enter Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart. It did peak at number 35 on Hot Rock Songs. 'Cry Little Sister' did not enter Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart. It did peak at number 15 on Hot Rock Songs. 'Cry Little Sister' did not enter the, but peaked at number 88 on the UK Singles Sales Chart.
